Dr. Nihal is an environmental expert and an assistant professor who taught and practiced architecture and urban design for over 15 years inseveral institutions and consultancies in Egypt and the UAE. Sheearned her Ph.D. from the AA School of Architecture in London in 2017 and M.Sc.degree in Sustainable Design of the Built Environment from The British University in Dubai & Cardiff University in UK in 2011. She holds a B.Sc. in Architectural and Environmental Design from The Arab Academy of Science and Technology in Cairo, Egypt. She is the founder of ENVIRONAS Design lab, which designs and assesses urban and architectural forms using latest environmental innovations to improve the impact of built environments in the MENA region. Her studies and research focus mainly on thermal comfort in hot cities, encouraging walkability, user’s thermal behavior and perception in shaping future cities, besides the integration between research and practice in architecture. She is the Programs Director and Egypt Country director for Sustainable Green Environment Initiative (SGEi) in Africa. She is also the chairperson of the SGEi annual conference that brings together climate activists from various African cities to shed light upon various challenges within.
