Informality is a major trend that has been expanding dramatically across all economic sectors. Housing is not an exception. Informal housing in the Middle East and North Africa hosts millions of people and their communities. These communities lack proper access to basic services, recreational spaces and adequate housing eco-systems in general.
Upgrading policies have shown success in many areas; however, they are yet to offer solutions for the vast majority of informal settlements. Moving from upgrading policies to sustainability and revitalization is a mindset change that needs to be discussed and tested.
